Message from the new President: Leigh Josey‏

May 15, 2015 No Comments

On Wednesday May 2015, the cricket club held its AGM and among the exciting amendments to the constitution and the thrill of the presentation of the 2014/15 financials, a new executive committee was appointed and I was voted in as the new President of the Elwood Cricket Club.

Firstly I would like to take the opportunity to thank my predecessor and mate Steve Murphy who has overseen an unparalleled period of growth for the cricket club, where we now boast one of the biggest cricket clubs – in terms of participation – in the city and a junior programme the envy of our competition. Steve has certainly left the club in a stronger position than when he began, and as an administrator and leader it is all anyone can ask. A fantastic job over the past two seasons, mate. Well done.

Secondly I would like to introduce my executive committee. Joining me as my Vice-Presidents are Luke Stanley and Kevin Wetdewich. Luke will assist me in running the off-field aspects of the club and Kev will take an official role (with club great John Feehan) as the club’s senior selection committee as we look to strengthen our development of our juniors and strive for excellence amongst our senior teams. Long-time committee member Marcus Bayer has been promoted to Treasurer, utilising his experience in finance and accounting, and ensuring a smooth transition from Luke, who has been nothing short of awesome in the role over the past two years. Joining them is our beloved Secretary Lindy Adamson who continues in the pivotal role she has done so well for a few years now.

In the next few weeks we will begin to fill the remaining roles in the general committee. Of particular importance is the role of Junior Coordinator. Our junior programme has become so large and so important that it is a now a role that requires an official committee position. I implore anyone who is interested to contact me on my details below. Our juniors are the most important aspect of our club and one we are determined to develop to its full potential.

Lastly, I am honoured to be given the opportunity to lead this very special cricket club. In no particular order the immediate focus of this administration will be the continued development of our juniors, the preparation and planning to compete for our first Longmuir flag since 1987, to consolidate the club’s financial position and to continue to foster our excellent culture.

We will have more news shortly regarding a whole host of announcements for the season ahead.
