Junior Registration information 2015/16

My name is Leigh Josey and I am the new President of the Elwood Cricket Club, having taking over from Steve Murphy at our AGM in late May.

Firstly, I am exceptionally honoured to be the President of this great club, and to preside over our junior programme that has grown exponentially over the past few seasons, thanks to the wonderful work of Steve, Kate Bannister, Nathan Harris and many others.

Over the past few months we have been working behind the scenes as to how we plan for the season ahead.

There are a few key things I need to communicate with the parents as the unprecedented growth of our junior programme means we are actively trying to work things out even though we are still at this point unsure of what grounds will be available (which we are waiting for from the Council) for our club’s junior grades and the make-up of the junior grades and fixtures (which we are waiting for from the association).

There is a small chance that the amount of grounds we have access to will be reduced for the season ahead so we need all parents to read this email.

So until we get further direction, here is some information for you.

1) All existing Elwood juniors will get preference for junior registration. In the coming weeks we will send out information regarding junior registration. It is important that if you want to register your son for Under 12s, Under 14s or Under 16s, that you follow the online links that will be provided, or let us know that you intend to register by emailing us at ElwoodCCJuniors@gmail.com. This is just so we can make sure that you do not miss out.

2) We are having a Junior Season Launch on Sunday September 13 at Elwood from 10am until 2pm. Elwood’s Director of Coaching, former Australian Test Captain Graham Yallop will be holding a “How to Coach Juniors” session from 11am which will run for a few hours. Our junior programme needs parents to coach our sides. We are investing in our coaches by using Graham’s immense experience and he has kindly offered to run this session for interested junior coaches. If you are interested in coaching a side this season, or to attend this session with Graham, please email us at ElwoodCCJuniors@gmail.com.

3) We need team coaches and team managers. While we are looking to resource our juniors as much as possible, and have some senior players in either coaching or assistant coaching roles, we will still be well short in filling those positions. We intend to have a “team managers” information night at the club before the season starts to assist in educating team managers and team scorers with as much information as possible. If you are interested in helping (and we need help) please email us at ElwoodCCJuniors@gmail.com.

4) Season fixtures. Our competition, SECA, has not released the senior or junior fixtures yet, however it is likely the junior season will begin on the weekend of either October 9/10 or October 16/17. As soon as we have this information we will let you know.

5) Season calendar. A lot of the feedback we have received from parents is the need for communication and especially key season dates. As soon as the fixture is released, we will release a junior calendar to allow parents to know all the important dates for the season.

6) Milo Cricket and T20 Blast. For those with children who are likely to participate in these formats (before Under 12s) we will have some information regarding these in the next few weeks.

The junior programme is exceptionally important to our club. We are very proud of our juniors, and we believe our junior participation is the envy of the competition and we are now looking at ways to make our programme the envy of the competition.

I am looking forward to the season ahead and if you have any questions, please email ElwoodCCJuniors@gmail.com or call me on 0425 257 248.

Go Elwood.

Leigh Josey
