Round 2: The Teams (& more milestones this round!)

October 16, 2015 No Comments

It’s Round Two and the club had a really good start to the season last week with 3 wins form 6 including, importantly, wins for our Firsts and Seconds. Now it is time to back that up and have more wins this week.

As President, I also need to communicate news, good and bad, to our players and supporters.

We had 16 people not available from Round 1 to Round 2. To put it simply: this is completely unacceptable. I will back our boys in, no matter the strength of the sides, but it creates a massive workload for a lot of people to try and get 6 teams up when we lose more than a team and a half worth of people in the second round. The club made a conscious decision, due to our size, to restrict new players in as we thought our people — good people — would miss out on games if our playing list was too big. It says a lot about our club that we can lose that many people and still field six sides but I need to reiterate to all our players that by playing for us, you are committing to a whole season of cricket. We have people wanting to join us and losing 16 players in one round means we may have to reevaluate our playing list strategy.

But I will back everyone in to do the right thing and commit from here on in. And that’s the last I hope I have to say on that topic.

The good news: Congratulations to Tony “Weeds” Rourke, who plays his 150th game this week. Well done, mate. And congratulations to 3rd XI firebrand and 3rd XI premiership hero Greg Thwaites who plays his 50th game. Great work mate. And congratulations to  Jason Caust who makes his club debut and to Ollie Redfern who makes his seniors debut. Good luck boys!

Good luck to everyone tomorrow. Remember, we are back to two-day cricket and the start times are (1sts and 2nds – 1pm), all other grades 1.30pm.
