Elwood Junior Cricket Club Winter 2016 Update!

July 29, 2016 No Comments

As we move through the middle of winter, the Elwood Cricket Club would like to let the Junior cricket community know of several exciting initiatives for season 2016/2017 that we hope will be a step in the right direction for the future of our junior program.

Over the past few months, the Club has engaged a collection of parents to form our first ever Junior Committee.  We have identified some areas we will be looking to greatly improve for the upcoming season and the seasons ahead.

Meet the Elwood Cricket Club Junior Committee

  • Nigel Crawley: Nigel’s son Max played Milo cricket for 2 years, then progressed to T20 blast in 2013 and has played a further 2 years in Under 12s.
  • Gary Elliot and Cathy Boyce: Gary and Cathy’s son Ben has been a junior at Elwood since 2013. Gary has also coached at Elwood since 2013 as Ben also progressed through the Milo, T20 blast and the Under 12 forms of the game. This will be his 3rd season coaching (and Ben playing) Under 12s.
  • Kieran O’Mahony and Emma Gronow: Kieran and Emma have 2 boys, Eoin (joined as a Rookie in season 2009) and Mark (joined as a Milo cricketer in season 2013) playing in the Under 14 and Under 12 competitions respectively.
  • Andrew and Regina Kemp: Andrew and Regina’s son Geordie has been playing with ECC for four years. He started with the Rookies and progressed through Under 12D, Under 12A and last year played with the Under 14B team.
  • Paul Marcolin: Paul is a current senior player with ECC and has been a member of the Seniors Committee for the last 2 years. His son Max plays in the Under 14 teams (junior at Elwood for 4 years) and son Sam has played with the Seniors for 3yrs after progressing through the juniors at ECC.
  • Lisa Martini: Lisa has two sons at Elwood Junior CC. Ben Andrews (Under 14) and Carlos Andrews (Under 12). She has been involved with the club as a parent and team manager since 2012.
  • Michael Scott: Michael Scott’s (Scotty) family (3 sons) have been with ECC for 6 years ago. Harry played last season in the Under 12A team, Will with the Under 12Ds and Tom with Milo Blast.
  • Leigh Josey (President, ECC), Luke Stanley (Vice President, ECC) and Sam Marcolin (ECC Secretary) represent the Senior Club Committee who offers their full support and commitment to the running of the junior club.

We need more interested parents to help out on the committee so please contact us via email at elwoodccjuniors@gmail.com or speak to one of the committee members.

Key Areas for Improvement

Coaching and Development

The Club has identified a number of areas where we need to improve the level of coaching and development for our junior players.  We are actively recruiting a professional coach to oversee our junior coaching and development.  This coach will work with the junior coaches and our seniors to establish and deliver a structured and detailed coaching program.  If you are interested in joining the coaching team in season 2016/2017 please contact elwoodccjuniors@gmail.com or speak to one of the committee members.

In addition to this, there will be a new level of senior player interaction and training.  We will be looking to implement a “Masterclass” training program that will involve our senior players coaching and interacting with all our junior teams.

The junior committee and the club are committed to ensuring that junior teams across all age groups for the 2016/2017 season are grouped commensurate with ability.

Pre-‐Season Dates

In order to assist parents with managing their very busy diaries, here are some key dates for the club and the competition for the season ahead. (Click the table below to enlarge)

Pre-‐Season Training Program

This season will see the Elwood Cricket Club provide a pre-‐season training program to give players the opportunity to prepare for the coming season.  This will commence week of 5th September.  We hope that this program will provide an ideal platform for those who wish to commence working on their game prior to the commencement of the season in early October.

Junior Clinic Day – Friday 23rd September

During the September school holidays, the club will host a junior clinic.  We are still organising the venue, times and other details but will communicate more information closer to the date.

Registration and Fees

We are currently preparing for registration for the 2016/2017 season.  This will commence mid August. A separate email will be circulated with registration information.  All registrations will be on-‐line via the MyCricket website.

Fees for the 2016/2017 season will remain unchanged however the club have introduced an Early Bird Discount.

We would like to ensure that this email reaches all junior cricket club members from last year and any other interested players.  If you know of anyone not receiving this email or wish to add anyone to the distribution list, please contact the committee at elwoodccjuniors@gmail.com.

Elwood Junior CC web site

The junior section of the Elwood cricket club website has been largely ignored over the last couple of seasons.  The junior committee would like to update the website and are urgently seeking any volunteers who could assist with this task.  We aim to use the website during the season as well as social media to communicate with the junior playing group and families.  Please contact the committee at elwoodccjuniors@gmail.com if you can help.

Communication and support

As a club, we acknowledge the challenges faced by many players and parents last season.  The structures we have put in place are directly aimed at addressing these issues.  We believe our plan for the juniors will allow both clearer communication and a more organised club where junior players at all levels can enjoy their cricket, are well coached and parents are happy and informed.

But to make this happen, we will need your support, effort and patience.  If you have any questions, please contact the committee directly or via email at elwoodccjuniors@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you all at the Club.
